Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, Peten Basin, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A thick-walled pottery bowl with a slightly concave base, tall walls, a deep basin, and a thin rim. The ground of the vessel is painted with a pale-orange slip, and the rim is outlined in black pigment. The exterior of the upper body displays a register of repeating stepped motifs in red-orange pigment outlined in black, all enclosed within a pair of thick vermilion stripes, and the base exhibits only the buff ground color. Size: 6.125" W x 4.3" H (15.6 cm x 10.9 cm).
