Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico and Guatemala, ca. 300 to 900 CE. This is a pair of jade pendants, both pierced for suspension, that show abstract geometric forms. The taller of the two us in the figure of a crouched lord, a common piece of Mayan iconography. Jade and jadeite plaques and pendants were used in Mayan society as personal adornments and as dedicatory offerings associated with the construction of public and private buildings.
