Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Pacific slope opf Guatemala but showing strong Teotihuacan influence, ca, 500 to 700 CE. Large, lovely and very showy example of ancient pottery. Rounded jar in orange and tan slips with three repeating panels of the god/ deity Tlaloc adorned in plumed headdress. Below the head of the deity is a glyph that perhaps represents rain. To each side a scrolled snail-like symbol with band of repeating cross-hatched elements and small indentations along top. A very striking bowl! Size: 7.5" W x 5.5" H (19 cm x 14 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
