Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-carved greenstone pendant of a stylized anthropomorphic face maskette. Exhibiting mottled hues of grass, lime, pistachio, beige, and seafoam, the face presents with puffy eyes and lips as well as a prominent nose, all framed within an angular headdress. A trio of hanging rectangular objects beneath the chin perhaps represent the upper portion of a more elaborate pectoral collar. Two pairs of biconically drilled suspension holes are situated on the verso and enabled this pendant to be worn on a longer strand. Size: 1.25" W x 1.75" H (3.2 cm x 4.4 cm)
