Pre-Columbian, Mexico and northern Central America, Maya Territories, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A greenstone head carved by the Maya, with stylized, linear features, and a large perforation at the top for suspension. Also, dozens of ancient greenstone seed beads and a modern cord and sterling silver clasp, creating a wearable necklace centered on an ancient Maya pendant. Size of pendant: 0.55" W x 0.9" H (1.4 cm x 2.3 cm); length of cord: 17" L (43.2 cm)

Provenance: private Probst collection, Monterey, California, USA, acquired in the mid-1970s to mid-1990s
