Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, El Salvador, Maya, Copador type, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of a flat-bottomed form with squat walls and a flared rim surrounding the shallow basin. Highly burnished and painted with slip in hues of crimson, citrine, cream, and black, the decorative motif features a repeating set of face-form glyphs around the exterior surfaces - with a large beak and discoid ear spools - that are interspersed with columns filled with petite spots; the exterior rim features a series of pseudo-glyphs. The basin interior is decorated with a solid red band along the rim as well as dense, radiating stripes within the middle, and the exterior base exhibits a minimalist bullseye motif in red. Size: 7.4" Diameter x 2.75" H (18.8 cm x 7 cm)

  • Condition: One fissure running from rim to basin stabilized with light adhesive. Chips to rim and base, with abrasions and light pitting to basin, rim, walls, and base, and minor fading to pigment in scattered areas. Nice preservation to most decorative motifs.
