Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished brownware pottery jar with a slightly rounded but stable base, a spherical body topped with a tall rim, and a deep basin. The exterior surfaces are decorated with 5 panels of dense stippling, each separated by 5 slender, solid panels, and the rim exterior bears an incised motif similar to bound cloth strips, perhaps depicting a tump line. Visible within the basin interior is a faint layer of red pigment, suggesting this vessel was used for storing cinnabar-based pigment before use. Size: 6.1" Diameter x 5.5" H (15.5 cm x 14 cm)
