Description:

Ancient Near East, Parthia, ca. 2nd century BCE to 2nd century CE. A beautiful pair of intricate earrings with loop-form bodies comprised of 85.6% gold (equivalent to 20K+). The faces of each earring have thick midribs adorned with large gold granules and have additional spherical granules surmounting the thin wires wrapping around each projecting arm. The tops are affixed with parabolic ear wires that enable these accessories to be worn with any outfit. Smooth patina covers most areas of the earrings. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 0.625" W x 1.125" H (1.6 cm x 2.9 cm); quality of gold: 85.6% (equivalent to 20K+); total weight: 13.5 grams.

A pair of similar earrings hammered for GBP 4,000 ($5,366.42) at Christie's, London "Antiquities" auction (sale 1561, October 1, 2014, lot 153).
