Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely pair of gold 82.6% (equivalent to 19K+) earrings with thin wire terminals. Each earring is comprised of gold sheet folded to create a hollow hoop. The ends taper to a thin wire that wraps around itself to form the complete hoop; formally this wire was the hook for the earlobe. These elegant earrings would have been worn by a Roman lady as her personal property, making these invaluable assets as well as elegant jewelry.
