Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely pair of pottery female figures, each shown standing semi-nude in a loincloth with intricate designs of body paint scrolling across their torsos. Adorned with necklaces, bangles, and shoulder pellets, both figures display thick, square bodies supported by broad legs and flared feet with their short arms reaching out from either side of their voluptuous breasts. Their petite heads are of the characteristic "sheep-face" type, each presenting ovoid eyes, a huge, pointed nose, and a slightly open mouth. Size (about the same): 3.2" L x 5.6" W x 8.5" H (8.1 cm x 14.2 cm x 21.6 cm)
