Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a pair of hollow pottery rotund figures that would have been interred alongside the bodies of the deceased in the West Mexican shaft tomb cultural tradition. Both appear to be pregnant women, with wide-set breasts and a distended belly. Their arms are out as if their hands are on their hips; these form handles on the sides of the figures. They make a nice matching pair! Size: 7-1/2" H x 5" W x 4" L (19 cm x 13 cm x 10 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Hooper collection, CA, acquired via family descent.
