Description:

Magna Graecia, Southeast Italy, Canosan, ca. 350 to 250 BCE. A pendant pair or shall we say 'couple' of graceful oinochoe vessels, the portrait bases representing a male and a female visage with very naturalistic features, the female's delicate face framed by a wavy coiffure and round earrings, the male with a squarer jaw, cleft chin, and short curly hairdo. Above these heads are matching vessels with globular bodies, a trefoil spout, and high handle behind. The surfaces show liberal remains of post-fire white pigment. Size: taller female measures 13.5" H (34.3 cm)

You would be hard-pressed to find one for this price. What's more, it is difficult to find a matched male/female couple, each with superimposed vessels. Exceedingly rare!
