Juan Quezada Celado (Mexican, Mata Ortiz, 1940 to 2022) ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A fine handmade pottery vase by Juan Quezada, an internationally renowned Mexican artist accredited with reviving and transforming the traditional pottery of Mata Ortiz Mexico. This red on black vessel has a contemporary interpretation of Paquime / Casas Grandes motifs painted with red clay and oxide pigments over the highly polished black surface. The village of Mata Ortiz became a world-famous center for ceramic production due to the renewed interest in traditional pottery and economic success that Quezada and his family created. The underside is signed by the artist. Size: 6" Diameter x 7" H (15.2 cm x 17.8 cm)
