Oscar Gonzales Quezada (Mexican, Mata Ortiz, 20th century) A beautiful handmade pottery seed jar vase with a unique marbled buff slip and overpainted geometric motifs. The village of Mata Ortiz has become a world-famous center for ceramic production in recent decades due to the renewed interest in traditional Mogollon pottery found in and around the archeological site of Casas Grandes (Paquime). Juan Quezada Celado (1940-2022) is accredited with reviving and transforming the traditional pottery of Mata Ortiz, learning on his own to recreate this ancient pottery and teach these techniques to other family members, who in turn taught others. Oscar Gonzales Quezada is the son of Consolacion Quezada, sister to Juan Quezada. Size: 7" Diameter x 6.75" H (17.8 cm x 17.1 cm)
