Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 200 to 800 CE. A massive tumi shaped headdress plume cast from copper into a curving arch with a repousse face attached to the front and inlaid with turquoise and lapis eyes. This panel would have attached to a crown band, the ever-watching face adornment to denote authority. Archaeological studies have revealed that Moche cities were governed by warrior-priest rulers. Depictions on Moche pottery have revealed that these rulers oftentimes wore elaborate crowns, often depicted in a crescent shape like this example. Size: 15" L x 13" H (38.1 cm x 33 cm); 16.25" H (41.3 cm) on included custom stand.
