Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A very pretty and massive example of a fossilized tooth from the prehistoric megalodon shark! This tooth has a light creamy caramel hue across the root and enamel. The root is a matte surface while the enamel is reflective and glossy, a natural result of the fossilization process! The edges retain most the serrations from the root to pointed tip. The different hues of megalodon teeth are a result of the minerals present in the sediment as the teeth fossilize. The lighter colors of this tooth are quite nice, a chance result of chemistry! Megalodons were among the largest predators the ocean ever saw, but their teeth are the only parts that have survived since their cartilage bodies could not fossilize. Size: 5.56" L x 4" W (14.1 cm x 10.2 cm); 5.5" H (14 cm) on included custom stand.
