Roman Empire, Levant, ca. 300 to 400 CE. Large and well-executed mosaic composed from thousands of stone tesserae. Scene shows a content horse grazing on grass, with deep brown border. Mosaics such as this graced the floor of villas of the wealthy Roman aristocrats. Set in concrete. Size: A massive 61-1/2" x 39-1/4".
