Description:

Western Europe, England, ca. late 15th to 18th century CE. An enormous cast-iron axe head meant for beheading those designated for execution. The hefty weapon features a triangular socketing shaft with a projecting lower spine, a thick neck, and a gigantic, crescent-shaped blade with a sharpened edge. Axes like this example were typically mounted to the end of a lengthy wooden pole so they could be swung with enough force to sever a head with one swift strike. Fine patina has formed across the entire weapon and imbues it with an intimidating yet handsome presentation. Size: 15.25" L x 10.2" H (38.7 cm x 25.9 cm); 11.25" H (28.6 cm) on included custom stand.
