Eastern Europe, probably Hungary, Medieval period, ca. 12th to 15th century CE. An intriguing iron axe head with a cylindrical lug, a circular eye, a slender neck, and a lengthy, rectangular bit. The beard of the extended bit curves gently inward toward the socket. Rich russet patina beautifully accents the cool grey surface of this remarkable axe. Size: 10.9" W x 16.1" H (27.7 cm x 40.9 cm)
