Description:

Pre-Columbian, Argentina or Chile, Mapuche culture, ca. 1500 CE. A fine pipe carved from a coffee-brown stone with a pair of stocky 'legs,' a tapered shoulder, a conical mouth piece, and a deep receptacle surrounded by a squat neck. Pipes like this example were common tools in ritual pipe smoking in the ancient Andes. Scholars also believe they were common gifts exchanged between different cultural groups throughout ancient Chile, and styles made in different regions have been found far from their origins. Size: 1.8" W x 2.75" H (4.6 cm x 7 cm).
