Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, Messapian, ca. 5th to 3rd century BCE. An attractive pottery pyxis presenting an elegant silhouette capped by a discoid lid, all embellished by several, black-painted horizontal bands atop a cream-colored ground. The graceful vessel displays a bulbous body with a rounded shoulder, a broad, tubular neck flanked by upwards-arching handles, and a lipped rim, all sitting upon a ring-form foot. The gently convex lid is surmounted by a central, knob-like handle. Size: 4.1" Diameter x 5.1" H (10.4 cm x 13 cm)
