Madeline Kaczmarczyk (American, b. 1949). Teapot n.d. Signed on bottom. A magnificent slab-built clay teapot that conjures images of Alice in Wonderland's tea party by Madeline Kaczmarczyk. The playful vessel's expressive form comes alive in an anthropomorphic way. This unique teapot sculpture was carefully handmade with immense attention to detail. If is comprised of a skillfully modeled clay body that is handpainted in lemon yellow and periwinkle blue with expressive black gestural details, a luster glazed black heart-shaped knob on the lid, and a luster glazed blue base with heart-shaped appliques that match the knob on the lid. A gorgeous work by an insanely talented ceramicist! Size: 8.125" L x 3.5" W x 8.625" H (20.6 cm x 8.9 cm x 21.9 cm)

Artist statement: "My mother was a child of the Great Depression. In our home, we had beautiful painted china cups and saucers, which were displayed, but never used. I think having something highly artistic and yet accessible appealed to her and many other women of her time. I like to honor that spirit in my clay-and-beaded pieces, which stem from a tradition of meticulous handcrafts. I find joy in making a clay form and then patterning the surface with glass beads. The process is meditative as well. Teapots have been a constant subject for me, as I love playing with the four basic components: vessel, handle, spout, and lid."
