Greece, Macedon under Rome or Roman Provincial, ca. 95 BCE to 70 BCE, under Roman Rule. AR tetradrachm, OBVERSE: Head of the deified Alexander the Great right, Greek inscription below. REVERSE: Money chest, club, and chair; all within wreath, Greek inscription above. This particular coin with the likeness of Alexander the Great on the obverse is highly sought after especially due to its fine condition and pleasing portrait. Tetradrachm of this type depicting Alexander the Great are considered to be some of the nicest portrait examples found on any ancient coins of which there are several. Although its denomination is a silver tetradrachm and thus a Greek coin, it is technically a Roman provincial coin from when the Romans ruled the Kingdom of Macedon. Size: 15.71 grams, 28 mm.
