Description:

**Originally Listed At $1200**

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran and Southeastern Turkey, Luristan, ca. 750 to 650 BCE. A forged-iron sword of rare form with a long, straight blade bearing sharpened edges and a pointed tip. Protruding from the base of the handle is a pair of recumbent lions with powerful bodies, and on the discoid pommel above is a pair of Janiform heads, each with a face peering off in opposite directions. The level of preservation to this weapon suggests it was intended as a funerary offering rather than a weapon meant to see the field of battle. Size: 32.25" L x 3.1" W (81.9 cm x 7.9 cm)
