Description:

Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 800 to 600 BCE. One of the more unusually formed Iron Age swords we have handled from this region. The sword is comprised of an almost triangular blade with a very pronounced blood ridge down the entire length of the blade, unusual in that the blade is oriented 90 degrees from what one would expect. Even more exciting, the blade shows some old damage from use during battle. If that weren't enough, there are two face appliques on the pommel as well as lion paws and faces on the hilt. Size: 19". Provenance: Ex-private Andrew Green collection, United Kingdom; Ex-private David Kennedy collection, acquired London Art Market in late 1980's. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108482

  • Condition: Intact with old damage from use as shown. Remains excellent for an iron weapon of this age.
