Description:

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. An intimidating example of a cudgel that is cast from copper via the lost wax (cire perdue) technique. The tall weapon has a cylindrical profile with a socketing shaft comprising the lower half and a thick head with two registers of dense conical protrusions. The cudgel was a devastating weapon when wielded in the right hands. It could be affixed to the end of a rod or pole to extend its reach or, in the case of a missing or broken pole, could be swung simply by grasping the socketing shaft. Size: 2.2" W x 6.75" H (5.6 cm x 17.1 cm); 9.8" H (24.9 cm) on included custom stand.
