Description:

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan culture, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A hefty cast-copper axe head formed via the lost wax (cire perdue) technique. The axe head is defined by a cylindrical socketing shaft, a wide horizontal blade on the verso, and an expanding vertical blade on the front. The dual blade design of this axe head suggests this was not used in battle but rather for utilitarian tasks. Lovely mottled green and brown patina envelops the entire tool. Size: 6.375" L x 2" H (16.2 cm x 5.1 cm); 2.5" H (6.4 cm) on included custom stand.
