Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A cast-copper axe head of a sturdy form. The vertical blade protrudes outwards in front of the cylindrical socketing shaft and has a thick edge that was perhaps used for shaping softer materials rather than as a battle-ready weapon. A pair of ringlets along the bottom reinforce the composition when in use, and a V-shaped upper opening in front of a conical protrusion creates the appearance of an abstract zoomorphic creature. Size: 5.125" L x 2.875" H (13 cm x 7.3 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
