Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan culture, ca. 9th to 7th century BCE. An impressive copper adze head featuring a tubular socket and a flat, rectangular head that projects at a 45 degree angle from the socket and tapers to a perpendicular cutting edge. Three horizontal bands of a lovely braided motif adorn the top of the socket. The ancient implement is enveloped in rich russet and green patina that is evocative of the ancient world. Size: 4.7" L x 3.2" H (11.9 cm x 8.1 cm)
