Description:

Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 1000 BCE. A charming bronze amulet in the form of an ibex with 3 dangling ornaments hanging from its feet. Standing upright on integral base, the animal presents tall, curved horns and a loop atop its back indicating it was likely once worn as an ornament or hung decoratively. A trio of twisted copper wires extend from the base of the ibex, attaching to the 3 decorative, dangling ornaments that may have once been bells. The ibex was a sacred figure associated with fertility and virility, and the animals appear frequently in Luristani art. Size: 1.1" W x 2.9" H (2.8 cm x 7.4 cm)

Provenance: private New York, USA Collection, acquired before 2000
