Luristan bronzes form a distinct body of metalwork characterized by a wide variety of idiosyncratic forms and a highly stylized abstract conceptualization of animal and human representation. This bronze cast axe head features a long downward sloping blade that resolves to a cylindrical shaft adorned with reliefs of four serpent-like creatures whose heads form the four spikes. Exquisite!
