Description:

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A finely cast bronze short sword with a blade that connects to a square-shaped guard. The long handle was designed to have an inlaid panel of wood, stone, or ivory. Shorter than a full-sized sword, this would have been an efficient weapon; it was lightweight and easier to wield in combat. Thick, mottled layers of orange, brown, and green patina cover all surfaces of this sword adding to its beautiful form! Size: 18.125" L x 1.3" W (46 cm x 3.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000
