Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran and Southeastern Turkey, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A lovely forged-bronze short sword with a circular band stretching around each side of the blade shoulder. The press-molded hilt has raised peripheries intended to hold grips made from perishable materials. The elongated petaloid blade exhibits a narrow, raised midrib, sharpened edges, and a pointed tip; this weapon would have been sufficient for stabbing or slashing. Fine layers of brown and green patina have formed over the armament from centuries of environmental exposure. Size: 20.2" L x 2.125" W (51.3 cm x 5.4 cm)

Provenance: private San Diego, California, USA collection; ex-Piscopo Estate, California, USA, acquired 1990's
