Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran and Southeastern Turkey, Luristan culture, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A forged-bronze short sword of intimidating form with a thick handle, a double ring pommel end meant to hold a weighted stone pommel, and a penannular shoulder guard. The elongated blade features sharpened edges, a pointed tip, and a trifurcated fuller that gradually narrows into 1 fuller roughly halfway down the blade. Great layers of patina have developed across the surfaces. Size: 22.5" L x 1.9" W (57.2 cm x 4.8 cm)

  • Condition: Blade is professionally reattached just above shoulder and handle reattached just below shoulder, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines; blade and shoulder/handle are perhaps not original to each other. Slight bending to blade, with softening to some finer details on handle, light encrustations, and chips to pommel rings and blade. Great earthen deposits and patina throughout.
