Description:

Northwestern Iran, Luristan culture, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. A large cast bronze roundel depicting a pair of ibexes (ibices) within a six-petaled surround, the ibices (wild mountain goats) positioned as mirror images of one another, their bodies facing opposite directions, their cloven hooves raised toward the peripheries of the roundel, their wide-eyed, bearded visages dramatically facing each other with intertwining thick ridged horns poignantly linking the pair. The metalsmith of this piece paid great attention to details; the delineated ribcages are particularly intriguing and probably once carried symbolic meaning. Size: 6.75" in diameter (17.1 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Prominent LA County collector who acquired these prior to 2000
