Description:

Luristan, modern day northern Iran, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A highly decorated example of a Luristan bronze mace head, with a long cylindrical socket handle decoratively flared; terminating in a beautifully shaped mace that calls to mind fruit. The region of Luristan, which encompasses the rugged Zagros Mountain chain, is famous for its bronze work that was above and beyond the skill level of contemporary groups. Votive mace heads like these were made to be placed in graves as valuable grave goods. Size: 2.1" W x 4.3" H (5.3 cm x 10.9 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Prominent LA County collector who acquired these prior to 2000
