Description:

Luristan, ca. 700 to 600 BCE. This is a thin, hollow cast bronze tube surmounted by a Janus head. These tubes are commonly found in Luristan and have been stylistically dated to the end of their cultural period, around the Iron Age III period in the ancient Near East. Their use is unknown but some scholars have theorized that they would have been attached to other objects by inserting a long bronze pin into the tube. It seems likely that it had something to do with the religious beliefs of the people of Luristan. Size: 3.6" L x 1" W (9.1 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
