Description:

Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A pair of bronze objects made using lost wax casting from the advanced metalworking culture of northwestern Iran. One of them is a conical bell with a thick loop for suspension on its top. The other is a very charming ibex, standing with its head turned to the side atop a very long neck. This ibex is really a fantastic find, probably made to be a finial or other decorative attachment as it has a plate under its feet with a drilled perforation through its center for attachment. Ibexes seem to have been associated in this culture with virility, masculinity, and power. Size of bell: 2.8" W x 4.3" H (7.1 cm x 10.9 cm); size of ibex: 1.8" W x 4" H (4.6 cm x 10.2 cm); 4.9" H (12.4 cm) on included custom stand.
