Description:

Northern Iran, Caspian Sea region, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. This is a cast bronze central pin section that depicts an anthropomorphic figure with a horned headdress and sidelocks flanked by inverted feline animals. A finial like this may have originally been placed at the top of a dwelling in Luristan, but, during the early Iron Age, when this would have been made, bronzes like this were deposited in stone-built graves and shrines. This period is known for its mold cast bronzes. Size: 2-1/4" H x 2-1/2" W; with custom stand, 4-1/4" H (6.4 cm x 6.4 cm; 10.8 cm).
