Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran / Turkey, Luristan, Iron Age, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A pair of cast copper and bronze axe heads, both similarly designed with a long narrow blade and a rounded butt end. A circular socketing hole is set through the center with four pointed tabs around the rim. The rounded edges of the blades suggest that these were ceremonial pieces perhaps for ritual or burial, rather than for warfare. A green patina and dark toning covers the surfaces of both. Size: 4.25" L x 2" W (10.8 cm x 5.1 cm)
