Description:

Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 1000 BCE. A Luristan bronze cloak pin with the upper end in the stylized form of the head of a mouflon. The mouflon is a species of wild sheep that lives in the territory of ancient Luristan and is one of the two ancestors of domesticated sheep. They live in the mountains, much like the nomadic horse lords of Luristan. The fine bronzes are justifiably renowed as some of the finest of the ancient Near East.
