Description:

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, Iron Age I-II, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A striking bronze axe head with a curved blade edge and long socketing shaft encircled by 3 horizontal raised rings. The prominent poll projects out from opposite the blade, which flares down to a pointed heel. Thick green patina has formed due to age, and the degree of preservation is admirable. Size: 6.1" L x 1.6" W x 5" H (15.5 cm x 4.1 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, purchased July 17, 2017; ex-private New York, New York, USA collection, purchased in 1979
