Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Toltec, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. An attractive, polychrome bowl of a rounded body on a flared concave pedestal foot, presenting an intricate decorative program featuring a plethora of stylized geometrics including step, spiral, and concentric circle motifs. The foot is adorned with an undulating pattern that suggests a serpentine motif, alluding to the Toltec's deification of Quetzalcoatl. A nice example that does not come along often! Size: 6.25" W x 6.125" H (15.9 cm x 15.6 cm)

Provenance: Whisnant Gallery, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; acquired over twenty years ago
