Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Sihuas Valley culture, ca. 100 to 700 CE. A lovely textile sash comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama) fibers in a polychrome palette of hues including sapphire, navy, maroon, ruby, citrine, cream, and umber. The main body of the sash is comprised of a decorative motif of triangles alternating in direction, each shape separated by a striped, multi-colored bar. A fastening strand extends from either side of the body with repeating chevron patterns, one in orange, light-red, and blue colors, the other in crimson and dark-blue, and each terminating with a solid red-and-white panel. Worn to accentuate a festive ensemble or as a symbol of status and wealth, this is a wonderful example replete with vibrant colors! Sewn onto beige-hued cloth backing.
