Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A petite glass dish with a lovely silvery patina that sits upon a ring base with short walls and a rolled rim. Around the body exterior are two rows of crimped ribbing, the top row juts slightly over the bottom one, with smoothed ribs. Areas where the glass surface peaks through the patina are a rich green, with lighter yellow hues near the base. A lovely example of a dish likely used during the Roman "cena," or evening meal, probably for containing condiments like garum, a fermented fish sauce. Size: 3" W x 1.25" H (7.6 cm x 3.2 cm)

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Martin Wunsch collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 1980s
