Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A charming cast bronze foot for a casket, cauldron, or small piece of furniture, in the form of a lion's paw and leg, with a scrolling, column-like motif at the upper end. Decorative items like this one give us an idea of how everyday items in the Roman world would have looked - ornate and whimsical rather than utilitarian. Size: 2.1" W x 6.25" H (5.3 cm x 15.9 cm); 6.45" H (16.4 cm) on included custom stand.
