Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru (North Coast), Moche Culture, ca. 100 to 700 CE. A pretty choker comprised of a double strand of colorful modern and ancient beads interspersed with nine blue/grey/cream sodalite amulets. These amulets are shaped like birds seated on water (suitable for their blue color!), with crested tails and downward curving beaks. These amulets grow in size towards the middle of the choker. Sodalite is a relatively rare stone, found in limited quantities in Brazil and Bolivia - to have such large amulets made of them is quite rare! Wearable and will make an excellent conversation starter, but please measure your neck to match as it will not fit all! Size: 15.7" L x 1.1" W (39.9 cm x 2.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Private Denver, CO collection acquired at Arte Primitivo Gallery, NYC
