Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A beautiful celt carved from a mottled forest-green stone with black and pale-yellow inclusions. Meticulously flaked and sanded smooth to a reflective sheen, the tool has a bulbous body, a rounded conical handle, and a wide head with a sharpened blade edge. The celt is a tapered hand tool of a highly-stylized ritual form with ceremonial and funerary purposes. Designed for a votive function, this is a fabulous piece of Maya artistry! Size: 2" W x 4.8" H (5.1 cm x 12.2 cm).
