Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Nayarit Lowlands near the village of Amapa, Ixcuintla, ca. 1100 to 1350 CE. A lovely wheel-thrown pottery bowl with a lightly concave base, rounded walls, a thin rim surrounded by a thin white stripe, and a deep basin. The exterior of the orange-slipped bowl is decorated with elaborate and highly abstract white-painted motifs including slithering serpents, radiating suns, vertical rectangular panels filled with small circles, and a register of small circles above everything. Size: 6.75" W x 3.375" H (17.1 cm x 8.6 cm).

  • Condition: Repaired from multiple large pieces, with light restoration in some areas, and resurfacing and light overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions to base, walls, and rim, with light encrustations, and fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits and nice manganese blooms throughout. Old inventory label and old inventory number written on white material on base.
