Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero, Mezcala culture (Balsas culture), ca. 700 to 200 BCE. A pretty necklace made from ancient greenstone beads, some round, some long and cylindrical; in the center is a larger disc bead. Much of the greenstone is mottled between paler and darker green. In this culture, greenstone was worth more than gold, and worn by elite members of society. Size: 21.5" L (54.6 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Private Ventura County, CA collection acquired before 1980
